I had heard of a group of men, military perhaps, that were woken up and told that "We are going for a run". This leader was asked "How long is the run" he wanted to get the right shoes on; to which it was replied "When I get tired".
God can feel like this but it's us not Him. He is kind. He knows that we should be waiting at His feet. Self absorbed? Self aware. He gave His son to pay for us. Kind and benevolent.
Demanding of obedience. Self absorbed and insecure? Self aware.
Sending his Spirit. The most trusting and giving person in all of creation.
