Can Love be hurt?

Love is not a feeling. Hopefully we all agree on that.
Love is a verb and love is action.
Our ego can be hurt. Our expectations of even common treatment can be let down but love? Love is not hurt in this.
When you feel pain how do you respond? When you are mistreated and disappointed how would your best self or ideal say that you should respond?
In the book of Job there is a man name Elihu. He is the only man not corrected by God and who claimed to speak for God.
He questioned Job in justifying himself and in demanding that God explain himself.
Every one else claimed to have wisdom but Elihu claimed to be animated by the Spirit of God.
The book of Job is one of my favorite books books in the bible. Where is there a longer or more in depth passage where God declares how great he is?
He spoke to a man that had a splinter in his heart. The pain was not for no reason. The pain and affliction was to bring to the surface this splinter.
I am not a terribly bright man by any real measure but when I look at Job, Elihu and then at the words of God I realize that I am an ant at best among giants and infinity.
